§ 200.080. Unclaimed Property in The Possession of The Police Department.

    Identifying Unclaimed Property. All unclaimed property other than money or cash coming into the possession of the Police Department from any source whatever and having any value shall be properly marked or catalogued so as to show its source and date of its receipt and shall be kept and disposed of as herein provided.
    B. 
    Property To Be Sold At Public Auction. On the first (1st) Wednesday of June of each year, or at such time as inventory deems it, all such property which has remained unclaimed for more than one (1) year, and the owner of which is unknown, shall be sold at public auction by the Chief of Police or the Marshal at a suitable place at Police Headquarters. Ten (10) days' notice of said sale shall be published in a newspaper of general circulation; said notice to be published not more than three (3) weeks prior to the day of said sale; said notice shall set forth the place and time said auction is to be held.

    Proceeds Of Auction — Destruction Of Property. All monies received from the sale of such property shall be turned over to the Clerk of the City to be deposited in the General Revenue Fund of the City. All property for which no bid is received at such auction shall be destroyed by the Chief of Police in the presence of at least one (1) member of the Board of Public Safety (other than the Chief of Police) and a certificate of said destruction, signed by the Chief of Police and the member of the Board of Public Safety present, shall be filed with the City Clerk.
    D. 
    Disposition Of Money Or Cash. All money or cash coming into the possession of the Police Department from any source whatever, which has remained unclaimed and the owner unknown for a period of at least one (1) year shall be turned over to the City Clerk and a record thereof kept by him/her. Should the ownership of said money or cash be established within a period of five (5) years from the date of its receipt, then the Clerk shall return the same to the owner. After a period of five (5) years, said unclaimed money or cash shall become part of the General Revenue Fund of the City.
